I. Basic Year One – Elaborate Description

Introduction day to year one (6 hours)
This day is to get to know each other, formally start the new study year, cover some logistics and introduce some of the main study topics of this upcoming year.

Ayurvedic nutrition course I (60 hours)
This course is for everyone who wants to know what ayurvedic nutrition can mean for and in a modern western life. Going into the basics of classical ayurvedic nutrition, the course translates this ancient knowledge into whatever is needed here and now in the west. This is a unique feature of this course: modern nutrition has gone haywire and presents a lot of difficult issues. Many of these issues will be addressed in this course from a modern ayurvedic perspective.
The purpose of this course is to offer an in depth training in ayurvedic nutrition. The course has originally been developed by Atreya Smith to train practitioners according to the Medical Association of Switzerland where he taught clinical ayurvedic nutrition to doctors and other medical practitioners. Hence, the orientation of this course is also to actually train professionals to use and become proficient in traditional nutritional medicine.
There are five written exams and one written case study required by the student. On completion a diploma of 180 hours (60 contact hours) in Ayurvedic Clinical Studies will be awarded as ‘Ayurvedic Nutritional Advisor’.
If this is your initial course in this or in the Ayurveda field we strongly advise you to continue with more studies before actually starting professional advices. In this case the course does suffice - however - to give advice to friends and family.

Ayurvedic Massage Course I (60 hours)
This Ayurvedic Massage module 1 will deepen the basics of vata, pitta and kapha in relation to abhyanga, and related massage techniques. This module will consist of extensive instructions and even more extensive time to practice, with immediate correction where necessary, on all facets related to ayurvedic massage of body, hands, feet, face and head. Much attention will go to simple and advance methods on how to manage your prana, as this is the ultimate secret for a good ayurvedic massage capacity, regardless of which specific technique.
Learning these techniques in this Module 1 will enable you to give simple but thorough ayurvedic massages to clients. In case you want to deepen your examination and all round ayurvedic skills, it will be good to also learn more about nutrition, lifestyle and prevention.
Before starting this module I it is advised to do the Intro Weekend Abhyanga - offered at several institutions and locations.

Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy Course (60 hours) – optional/alternative to Ayurvedic Massage Course I
This is an optional course OR an alternative to Massage course I (see above) and a requirement is that one has completed or is student in any yoga teacher training.
The Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy Course is being offered by the AAS through the yoga institute Yoga Moves, as a whole track consisting of shorter modules, together building up to the 60 hours track.
This track will consist of nutrition in yoga and ayurveda, sankhya philosophy and its influence on yoga and ayurveda, asanas and pranayama for vata, pitta and kapha, restorative yoga, daily routine (dinacharya) for yoga and ayurveda.

Module Holisan advanced video class lectures (24hours)
Four separate days, facilitated by Holisan in Lelystad, covering 4 basic subjects, each of them starting with an inspiring, in-depth video class lecture by Dr. Vijith, and followed by an explanatory presentation, discussion and class assignments. Topics are:
• Ayurveda: vedic living in the modern world (on authentic ayurveda)
• Shadpadartha: scientific/philosophical foundation of ayurveda
• Chapter 1 of Ashtanga Hridayam: introduction to basic principles
• Chapter 2 of Ashtanga Hridayam: introduction to daily routine

Dinacharya Retreat (with Dr. Vijith & team; 30 hours)
